Joker’s Asylum 2: Harley Quinn

June 17, 2010

This one shot comic, with writer James Patrick and Joe Quinones as the artist, focuses on the Joker’s sometimes girlfriend, Harley Quinn. The story opens up with Harley breaking out of Arkham to visit the Joker on Valentine’s Day. After breaking out and back to their old hide out, Harley finds out that all is now well with her world. Spider informs her that the Joker has been kidnapped, and she becomes royally pissed that someone would kidnap him on Valentine’s Day. Harley sets out determined to get the Joker back and to celebrate Valentine’s Day properly. After many guns, some blood, and explosions, she gets what she wants, but not exactly in an ideal setting.

The comic is pretty funny too. In one of the panels, a cop tells her to surrender. She yells back at him telling him to surrender. The story is cute and fun, and a great quick read. These one shots are a great way to be introduced to a character, or are a great addition for any fan of a character. The first Joker’s Asylum comics were great, and so far the ones I’ve read have been just dandy.

True Blood; The Comic

June 16, 2010

Can’t get enough True Blood? Well you’re in luck. Starting next month there will be a six issue True Blood mini series, being released by IDW. The comic will debut at San Diego Comic Con 2010. I personally am excited to read the continued struggle of how many times Sookie can scream “BEEEEEEEL” while Bill in turn struggles with sayings such as “WE CAN NAWT BEH TOGETHA SUCKEH FOHR I AHM A VAHMPAHR.” Maybe Tara will off herself too, because she annoys the hell out of me.  Maybe Eric will be naked through much of the comic. Maybe Sam will figure out this shit is whack and leave town for something less stupid.

In other exciting comic book news, Mulder and Scully will be in 30 Days of Night! Yay! I love me some Mulder and Scully. I just wish the last movie didn’t stink. 😦

Brightest Day Please Kill Aquaman Off

June 15, 2010

So in issue number 3, Aquaman summons what he thinks is a fishy friend of his. Instead he gets a dead and rotting whale that appears, and chomps down on him. That is awesome. What’s not awesome is that he lives through it, and he and Mera hug it out. But wait! Mera has a look of despair in her eyes! LEAVE THE FIHSY BASTARD, MERA!

Also, the new Green Arrow series looks like it will be 10 kinds of bad ass. Maybe I’ll go pick up a copy sooner or later.

Last but not least, I’m on the market for a Sailor Moon wig. I still love you Sailor Moon.

Wizard World Philly 2010

June 12, 2010

I would have pictures, but my sister took the USB cord for my camera. She’s an asshole.

Well, what a day! I’m fighting the urge to sleep on my laptop, but I want to get this out while everything is still fresh. Last night I didn’t sleep since I was really excited for this con. Last year it was wonderful. This year, it was just as amazing! Han and I did reunite and it was rainbows and unicorns and magic.  The line to get into Wizard World was very easy, since the weather was so nice.

Finally, after an hour (but did not feel like so) we were inside. The con is still “small”, but it was much more crowded than last year. I promptly got autographs for my dad (Patrick Stewart was underwhelming, in case you care) and then walked around for a long time. Han and I eventually met back up and went to Reading Market for lunch. It was delicious. OM NOM.

We then walked some more! I don’t really buy comics at these cons. The most of what I look for is good deals on toys, and there were deals to be had! I got one of those awesome $80 Batgirl dolls (the  1:18 scale ones or something) for $35. I was thrilled. I also got two Sub-Mariner comics for $15. My boyfriend got a bunch of Spider-Man comics.  I even got a nifty Archie puzzle from 1972, but that was after the con!

My only real complaints would be the following;

-I am looking for an Archie 2. Every dealer I asked scoffed and said “Good luck. That comic is rare.” No, unicorns are rare. Do you know why? Because they don’t exist. However, Archie #2 does.

-Crowded. Sweet Jesus it STANK up in that bitch!

On a positive note, I got to see a Pep #22 in person. It would be the second one I’ve seen in real life. I’ve clearly done a lot with my life.

Overall, great con. I’ll go back next year! Yay! 😀

FINISH HIM

June 10, 2010

Did anyone else watch the new Mortal Kombat trailer? Now I grew up and loved the N64 game. I played Sindel all of the time. She was indeed the head bitch in charge. I even liked the two movies, but I was uner the age of 12 so I didn’t know any better.

Well I saw the clip. I was laughing my ass off the entire time. It tries very hard to take itself super-duper seriously, and tries to look like something Christopher Nolan would do. The realism is just lost on me, since it’s pretty much dumb as shit. However, it was enjoyable. Maybe Sindel will be in it, or maybe this abomination of a movie will never be made.

Of course, Twilight movies are still being made so my wish clearly will not come true.

No Joker for Batman 3

June 9, 2010

If you read the internet, you’ve probably already heard that the Joker will not be in the next Batman. I personally am thrilled. Ledger did an amazing job as the Joker, and I feel as though replacing him would be a slap to the face. So, since he is not coming back, here is a list of villains I would like to see:

Catowoman: Probably the most logical choice. Batman needs a love interest, and Catwoman is the perfect  anti-hero.

Harley Quinn: Probably the least likely, I feel she would still be a good side villain, maybe bent on getting revenge for the Joker.

The Riddler: If done right (not Jim Carrey) this character could be *awesome*. Especially if Catwoman was in the next movie.  I feel they balance each other out nicely.

Poison Ivy: This character could be made into a realistic, eco terrorist hell bent on killing the world. It can be done, and I believe Nolan can do her right (zing).

The Penguin: Get rid of the (cute) birds that he had in Batman Returns, and make him a competitor for Wayne, who also happens to be a bad guy. He could be made into one helluva villain.

There are tons of characters to pick from in the Batman universe. Talia Al Ghul would be neat to see, for example. What do you guys think?

Comic books; Not a hobby.

June 8, 2010

So recently on YouTube (or within the pat year), I saw a video of some guys breaking a CGC case because they don’t like CGC. Fine, whatever, I understand why people do and don’t. However, in the comments section, people were going on about how comic books are not a hobby. Now, I’ve been collecting and reading comics my whole life. I have always called it a ‘hobby’. I have never looked at comic books as literary adventures (although that is a good point), since I save that scholarly title for books such as “Pride and Prejudice” and “A Tale of Two Cities”. Granted, there are comics that are up to literary standards; Watchmen, Persepolis, and Maus. However, if I tried to pass my Detective Comics as such, all of my English teachers would probably burn them on sight.

So I went to www.dictionary.com and looked up the word ‘hobby’:

“an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation: Her hobbies include stamp-collecting and woodcarving.”

Well golly gosh darn to all of you “IT’S NOT A HOBBY” people out there! I totally collect and read comics as a form of pleasure and relaxation, and this is not my main occupation. My main occupation is working at a gym and being a senior in college! Trust me, I’m not doing either for relaxation, even though I do enjoy both a great deal.

I think you got this wrong.

June 7, 2010

So as most of you know, the new SyFy series for The Phantom will be airing very soon (like, this month). I am a fan of the Phantom, being introduced to him when I was 10 years old thanks to the 1996 movie. That movie wasn’t actually that bad. It stayed sort of true to the character, didn’t try to update him, and oh yea his costume wasn’t changed. It just looks like bad, typical SyFy crap, much like that Princess of Mars movie. I probably won’t watch this new Phantom, but I’m sure my dad will.

That being said, this fan trailer for Green Lantern is really bad ass:

Mark your calendars. That is when the third Batman movie comes out. I feel like that is too long of a wait, but it will so be worth it. So who do you think the next villain will be? My vote goes for Catwoman!
