Captain America:The Winter Soldier film review

April 12, 2014

I can say that Captain America:The Winter Soldier improves on The First Avenger in every way.

The movie takes place in modern times.
I love the direction they took for The Winter Soldier.
It feels more like a political thriller of the 70’s than a superhero movie (which it makes sense for Captain America)

Chris Evans really shines as Steve Rogers this time around.
Scarlett Johansson was great as Black Widow (I love her performance so much,I want her to have a solo movie)
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon was cool.
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier was great as well.
He doesn’t appear a lot in the movie, but when he does,he’s an unstoppable killing machine.

I would love to see more of The Winter Soldier in future movies.

I really don’t have anything bad to say on the movie.
I give it a 5 out of 5 (The First Avenger 4 out of 5)

Stay after the mid & end credits for scenes for the Avengers 2.
Also, try and spot the easter eggs in the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy trailer.

February 20, 2014

When Marvel announced Guardians of the Galaxy movie,I like everyone else didn’t know about the series.
How can they make a Sci-Fi movie that the general audiences will spend money to see even though it isn’t a “Superhero” movie.
Well,by casting actors everyone is familiar with, and make it have some humor.

After watching the trailer,I can say that they did a great job in showing everyone what to expect in the film.
Rocket Raccoon & Groot are going to be show stealers in the movie.
I’m curious to see how Bradley Cooper will voice Rocket Raccoon (I always pictured a British actor to voice Rocket, but I’ll give Cooper a chance)

Overall the cast looks great, and it looks like a fun movie to watch.
Can’t wait till August 2014.

Batman/Superman or Justice League movie?

December 10, 2013

With the casting of Wonder Woman for the Batman/Superman movie,I’m starting to wonder what WB/DC is thinking?
The actress casted as Wonder Woman isn’t what I’m worried about.
I’m worried about the script they’re using for the film.

And Wonder Woman may not be the only superhero in the film.
With rumors of Flash,Nightwing, and Martian Manhunter making cameos,I’m starting to think WB/DC is making a JLA movie.

I know they’re trying to play catch up with Marvel/Disney,but I’m worried that they may go too far with this film.
Yes,I and every fanboy & girl wants a JLA movie, but I think they’re rushing it to beat Marvel/Disney.
Plus, there isn’t enough screen time for each hero to have any character development if they go this route.

Whatever they go with,I’m still going to see it.

Ben Affleck as Batman.

August 28, 2013

As you all know by now Warner Bros announced that Ben Affleck will play Batman in the Man of Steel sequel.
Then fanboys went crazy and posted hateful stuff at Mr.Affleck and WB.
Hell, they even had a petition to have him removed O_O

What to I have to say about it?
Well, for one I didn’t go crazy about it.
I was more shocked than anything else.
He’s not the worst pick for Batman (that one goes to Clooney 😛 )
Affleck has earned some respect recently for his directing.
Yes,he did DareDevil but that wasn’t his fault for it being god awful (bad writing & direction were the blame)
I don’t really understand why he’s getting this much hate from fanboys.
I mean look at how much hate Ledger & Hathaway got when they were casted as The Joker & Catwoman.
And they turned out pretty good.

I think we all need to wait & see how Affleck will do as Batman before we pass judgement.
He could turned out to a great Batman, but we won’t till we see a trailer of the movie.
I hope he give a great performance as Batman (and prove the haters wrong)

The Wolverine film review.

July 28, 2013

Here’s my review of The Wolverine.
I can say that it’s a lot better than X-Men Origins:Wolverine hands down (story & character wise)

Pros:
I love the Japanese setting of the film (the bullettrain seen was great)
The Japanese cast were great (mostly from Rila Fukushima & Tao Okamoto)
Rila Fukushima as Yuriko was awesome (she was a fun character to watch, her being a mutant didn’t really bother me that much)
Tao Okamoto was also great as Mariko.
There are hints of Claremont’s mini-series,but the rest is just for the film.
The Silver Samurai was cool.
They didn’t shoehorned in a bunch of mutants in this film (like Origins did)

Cons:
Viper really wasn’t much of a villain(they could have cut her character out and no one would have notice)
The Jean Gray scenes confused me (is she really dead?,why is she with Logan?,why is she even in this film?)
I would have like to have seen more of Yuriko.

Overall,I loved this movie (WAY better than Origins)
4 out of 5.

Had I review Origins,I would give it 3 out of 5.

Also, stay after the post-credits to see a scene that links X-Men:Days of Future Past 🙂

Man of Steel movie review (spoiler warning)

June 15, 2013

I saw Man of Steel on Friday.
So,I wanted to write a review on it.
Is it the best Superman movie? Yes.
Did I enjoy it? Yes.
Is this the Superman movie we’ve been waiting for? Yes and then some.

The movie starts out with Lara-El giving birth to Kal-El.
We soon find out that he’s the first “natural” birth on Krypton in centuries (this twist interest me)
Apparently,Krypton were using a form of Eugenics to create their people (I wish they would of given more info on why they were doing it)
Anyway,Jor-El tells the leaders of Krypton that using the planet core for resources has made the planet unstable and have a week to live.
Then we see Zod and his goons killing everyone.
Jor-El escapes and returns to his home to send his son to Earth (their sun is still young,so Kal-El can survive on Earth)
Zod gets there, but it’s too late in stopping the rocket,he then fights and kills Jor-El.
He and his goons are send to the Phantom Zone for their crimes.

We then jump 33 years after on Earth to see Clark working on a number of jobs (crab fisherman is were he starts off)
I could go on for hours writing this review, but I want everyone to watch it themselves.

The casting is pretty much spot-on.
Cavill as Superman is awesome.
Amy Adams as Lois Lane is good (I’m one of the few that likes Ms.Lane as a redhead,I think it adds to fiery personally)
Michael Shannon as General Zod is pretty badass.
The 2 performances I thought were great are Costner & Crowe as Jonathan Kent & Jor-El.
They’ve helped Clark to understand his powers and how when the world see him,the world will change forever.
I was surprised how much screen time Jor-El got in this film (45 mins total)
Seeing Jonathan Kent die was heartbreaking, but he knew that Clark wasn’t ready to be seen yet (which is why he didn’t want him to save him)

The idea of Superman being a Christ-like figure makes sense to me.
Superman was created to give kids someone to look up to.
And when you look at Superman,he is someone we as humans can look up to for what he stands for good.

The one scene that will get fans upset is at the end were Superman has to kill Zod to save a human family.
We all know that Superman doesn’t kill, but in a situation that he was in what would have he done?
Also,by killing Zod Superman is the last Kryptonian, and Earth his new home.
Knowing what he did,he’s angry and in pain for his actions knowing he’s the last of his kind.

The SFX were awesome(Superman finally gets to punch some bad guys)
The flashback scenes were pretty good (it gave us a idea on how Clark was dealing with his powers)

Overall this the best Superman movie to date.
The one problem I had with the movie is they didn’t explain why Krypton were using Engenics to create their people.

4 out of 5
It’s a must see movie (screw the critics)
I loved it,and I’m a Marvel Comics fan girl LOL.

Minorities actors casted in white roles (comic book)

May 4, 2013

I’m a member of a comic book forum and they were talking about how minorities are being cast in roles that were originally white characters.

For example Idris Elba played Heimdall in Thor (Heimdall is white in the comic books)

Anyway, there’s this rumor that Fox may cast a African-American to play Johnny Storm in their Fantastic Four reboot.

This news got a lot of comic book fans upset because they see it as trying to get minorities to see it or Fox not being faithful to the source material.

What’s my take on this subject?
Well,It really depends on the character they’re casting.

Characters like Superman,Batman,Wolverine,Captain America,Wonder Woman, and others I can’t see being played by minorities actors mainly because they’re so iconic that it would upset both fans and non-fans.

But if it’s like a 2nd tier or supporting characters I could see it happen.

Jamie Foxx is playing Electro in the Amazing Spider-Man sequel.
Lawrence Fishburne is playing Perry White in Man of Steel.
Kerry Washington played Alicia Masters in Fox’s Fantastic Four movies.

So,it can work but it really depends on the character.

For me,All I want is an actor that can really play the part well (doesn’t matter what their skin color is)
Could an African-American actor play Johnny Storm?
Don’t know,but it’s a subject worth talking about.

Let me hear what you think about this subject.

J.J.Abrams to direct Star Wars:Episode VII?

January 24, 2013

Reports are that Lucasfilms has hired J.J.Abrams to direct Star Wars:Episode VII.
If this is true,I’m both excited and sadden.

Excited because I loved what he did with Star Trek, and I hope he’ll give the Star Wars franchise a much needed boost.
Sadden because he may not return to direct a third Star Trek film 😦

But that’s if the rumors are true.

We’ll see what happens with this news.

Disney buys Lucasfilms

October 31, 2012

As you all know that Disney bought Lucasfilms for $4 billion on Tuesday.
I was surprised by this news as everyone else was.

I think in the long run this will benefit both parties.
I want to see different filmmakers take on the Star Wars franchise.

I love what Disney is doing with the Marvel films, and I’m very optimistic of what they’ll do with the Star Wars brand.
As long as Lucas isn’t involved in writing or directing the films,It will survive.

I don’t know what will happen to the Star Wars comic books from Dark Horse Comics.
My guess is that once their contract expires,it would go to Marvel Comics.

If there’s one franchise that needs a “reboot” it’s Star Wars

Also,I want Joss Whedon for a Star Wars trilogy 🙂

Dredd movie review

September 21, 2012

Here’s my review of Dredd.
I can safely say that Dredd is the movie that Judge Dredd fans like myself have been waiting for.

Karl Urban is awesome as Dredd.
He makes Batman look like Barney the Purple Dinosaur (Sorry Lauren)
Some may complain of Dredd not having any character development(but he doesn’t need one)
He also doesn’t need a origin story either (That’s not his style)

I really liked Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson.
She really had good character development as the movie went on.

I love the chemistry between Dredd & Anderson.
The one-liners were clever & it doesn’t sound cheap.

MaMa was a evil villain, but this was the Judge Dredd show.

This movie is not for the weak of heart or stomach.
The violence in the movie is pretty intense, but they’re great.

The Slo-Mo scenes were great & surreal(They even look great in 3D)

I do recommend seeing it in 3D.

The only thing I didn’t like was the used swear words f*** & s***
I really liked the future swear words in the comic books.

The movie isn’t too long or too short.

They’re some easter eggs in the film if you look closely.

Overall,I give it 4 out of 5.
