Batman Push-ups

May 2, 2013

Batman Push-ups

In real life I work at a gym. I also work out with an awesome trainer named Katie who has managed to incorporate superheroes into my workout, which has led me to this:

Over the next few months I plan to expand the Girls With Comics YouTube channel with superhero workouts everyone can do at home!

So dear readers, is there anything you’d like to see? Anything you’d like to suggest?

Archie Makeup

April 1, 2013

Archie Makeup

This has been my obsession for the past month. I somehow managed to buy the entire collection. It took a ton of time and a ton of money. But if you like Archie and you like makeup, this is a win win. The Veronica blush (as shown) is literally the best blush I’ve ever used. The collection is available through MAC, although many stores are sold out you can still score it online through eBay.

My Boyfriend Was an Anime Con Virgin: Katsucon 2013

February 17, 2013

Sort of. He was familiar with Otakon (or rather, with people watching). He ad been to a few conventions before for other genres. In fact we had met at a horror convention late September. I did take him to Tigercon, a local anime convention at a college around here.It probably wasn’t the best con to take him too; the average con goer was maybe 17. Him and I are both in our late twenties.

So this past weekend we went to Katsucon! Thankfully Katsucon has a much more age diverse crowd. Plus it has some of the best cosplay you’ll ever see. He had originally wanted to cosplay as Naked Snake, and I went as Sailor V. His plans fell through, but in a way that may have worked out. If you’ve ever had a con virgin with you, you know that it’s impossible to walk a straight line without them stopping to look at something every other minute. It might seem annoying, but it was really endearing. It reminded me of my first conventions as a 14 year old. Everything was shiny and new. Watching him go through that helped me capture some bits of nostalgia as well.

We spent a good three hours in the dealers room painstakingly combing through every booth to see who had the best deals on what. We sat in the hallways and people watched. He excitedly pointed at things and asked questions. I think his new favorite anime may be Chi’s Sweet Home. We didn’t attend panels, we didn’t watch anime. We bought stuff, we people watched, and we had fun with our friends.

Yes, there was another convention in the hotel. No, we did not have any bad interactions with them. While I did see one Tweet from one bad apple of the BBYO, that was it. Everyone else gawked accordingly (but let’s be real. If you’re a cosplayer you should be used to that) but no one bothered each other. Of course that might not be the case for other con attendees.

The Gaylord is as always a great hotel, but impossible to navigate. One young lady at the check in counter had no idea where a staircase (to get to higher levels) was. That was funny to us, but ultimately she needs to know. What if there’s a fire inside of the hotel?

Also I only paid $8 for the day to park at the garage across he street. That’s about on par with what I pay to park at my garage for Otakon.

All in all Katsu was fantastic. If you’ve never been, or haven’t been in a while, I urge you to go!

Pictures I took can be found here. Enjoy! 🙂

J.J.Abrams to direct Star Wars:Episode VII?

January 24, 2013

Reports are that Lucasfilms has hired J.J.Abrams to direct Star Wars:Episode VII.
If this is true,I’m both excited and sadden.

Excited because I loved what he did with Star Trek, and I hope he’ll give the Star Wars franchise a much needed boost.
Sadden because he may not return to direct a third Star Trek film 😦

But that’s if the rumors are true.

We’ll see what happens with this news.

Disney buys Lucasfilms

October 31, 2012

As you all know that Disney bought Lucasfilms for $4 billion on Tuesday.
I was surprised by this news as everyone else was.

I think in the long run this will benefit both parties.
I want to see different filmmakers take on the Star Wars franchise.

I love what Disney is doing with the Marvel films, and I’m very optimistic of what they’ll do with the Star Wars brand.
As long as Lucas isn’t involved in writing or directing the films,It will survive.

I don’t know what will happen to the Star Wars comic books from Dark Horse Comics.
My guess is that once their contract expires,it would go to Marvel Comics.

If there’s one franchise that needs a “reboot” it’s Star Wars

Also,I want Joss Whedon for a Star Wars trilogy 🙂

Dredd movie review

September 21, 2012

Here’s my review of Dredd.
I can safely say that Dredd is the movie that Judge Dredd fans like myself have been waiting for.

Karl Urban is awesome as Dredd.
He makes Batman look like Barney the Purple Dinosaur (Sorry Lauren)
Some may complain of Dredd not having any character development(but he doesn’t need one)
He also doesn’t need a origin story either (That’s not his style)

I really liked Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson.
She really had good character development as the movie went on.

I love the chemistry between Dredd & Anderson.
The one-liners were clever & it doesn’t sound cheap.

MaMa was a evil villain, but this was the Judge Dredd show.

This movie is not for the weak of heart or stomach.
The violence in the movie is pretty intense, but they’re great.

The Slo-Mo scenes were great & surreal(They even look great in 3D)

I do recommend seeing it in 3D.

The only thing I didn’t like was the used swear words f*** & s***
I really liked the future swear words in the comic books.

The movie isn’t too long or too short.

They’re some easter eggs in the film if you look closely.

Overall,I give it 4 out of 5.

Superman & Wonder Woman controversy.

September 1, 2012

As pretty much everyone know that Superman & Wonder Woman hooked up on Justice League #12.
I really don’t see why this is such a big deal.
This isn’t the first time Superman & Wonder Wonder hooked up in comic books.
Kingdom Come being the most famous of this hook up.

Much like the Catwoman controversy,I really don’t think it’s that big of a deal.
I actually like the idea of Superman & Wonder Woman hooking up.
It makes more sense than Sups dating Lois Lane.
Plus,Lane seems more into her work than she is with having a serious relationship.

How will DC makes this work is up in the air,but I like the potential of seeing 2 super powered beings having a romantic relationship.

Batman:Arkham City review.

July 11, 2012

I finally finished Batman:Arkham City for the PS3 (I was busy lol )

Anyway,here’s my review.
Everything you loved about Batman:Arkham Asylum is back, but with more stuff to do.
It takes place in a city/prison by Hugo Strange.
You still have to go up against the Joker though.

Gameplay is the same (which is a good thing)
You also have side missions to do (which adds a nice change of pace from the story)
I like the “open world” setting of the game instead of Arkham Asylum.
You have new gadgets to play this time around, while favorites like Remote Control Batarang & Explosive Gel return.
After finishing the game, you can play New Game + with all the gadgets you get(but the game is harder so you better use the stuff you have)
The soundtrack is amazing,I think it can compete against any movie soundtrack out there.

One of the things I didn’t like AA was the lack of Challenge Maps.
Arkham City changes that by adding more Challenge Maps.

I love Catwoman in Arkham City.
Her fighting style is very different from Batman (which is great since you have another character to play around with)
If you bought the Robin & Nightwing DLC (Like I did),they play differently as well.
Unfortunately you can’t play them in Story Mode,But you can play them in The Challenge Maps & 2-D side scrolling campaign.

The Riddler is back with more Riddler Trophies to collect.

Overall I loved playing this game.
I give it a 5 out of 5.

As for Batman:Arkham Asylum,I give it a 4 out of 5.

Batman:Arkham City is one of the few games that surpasses the first one.

If you’re new to the games,I recommend playing Batman:Arkham Asylum first then Arkham City.
I think resident Batman fan Lauren would give this her seal of Approval 🙂

How Marvel’s The Avengers changed the movie industry.

May 25, 2012

As you all know The Avengers is breaking every box office record.
But I think The Avengers changed the way movie studios look & greenlight movies (mainly action movies)
After both Dark Shadows & Battleship bombed at box office, movie studios can’t relied on A-list actors or tons of CGI to make money now.
They now need to think about not only who’s in a movie, but also how the movie is written.
One of the reasons The Avengers was awesome was the character’s interaction with other characters.
Joss Whedon was able to put all these awesome superheroes and have everyone of them to have one or two moments to shine.
Hulk vs Loki comes to mind.

Why did Dark Shadows & Battleship failed?
Because the story was not only crap, but the characters sucked too.
The fact that Paramount Pictures delayed G.I.Joe:Retaliation by 9 months for “3D” shows that they were worried about it bombing at the box office like Battleship did.

Men in Black 3 opens next Friday, and my guess it will finally beat The Avengers at the box office.
But now movie studios are now watching closely on the following films:

Snow White and The Huntsman
Prometheus
Amazing Spider-Man
And The Dark Knight Rises.

Should either one of them bomb or fall below expectations,it’s because people are expecting more out of their movies now.
I believe people are so spoiled by how The Avengers was so awesome that they expect all of these movies to be awesome too.
But if they’re not, then people will tell their friends to not see it.

I hope the movie industry will learns from The Avengers and make an awesome movie out of it.
