Superhero deaths:Good storytelling or just a gimmick?

As you may all know that the Human Torch is dead in FF #587.so this got me wondering, is the death of a beloved character a way to make an interesting story or is it just a gimmick to make money? To me I think it’s just a way to get people to spend money on a struggling series. If they wanted to make a good story they should have killed the Invisible Woman then I would have been interested in the series b/c I’m a fan of the character and she’s the heart & soul of the team. When Marvel killed Captain America I was pissed, but at the same time I said to myself “Ok,but how long till they bring him back?” So what the hell is the point in killing a superhero if they are going to bring them back from the dead????  That’s why I didn’t really care about the death of  the Human Torch b/c they’ll just bring him back.Marvel did sell a lot of copies the book, but I didn’t give a crap.I want Marvel to just tell a good story and not use a death a character to sell a book.A good example of a good story selling a book is the current Green Lantern series by Geoff Johns (you have to read this series it’s awesome 😀 ) So,that’s what I have to say about this topic.I want to hear what you guys and gals have to say.
